“The Heir was a fascinating story. I found the structure interesting where it dealt with the family members in turn and giving the reader the opinions of each. What it showed was not so much primogeniture in the historical sense, but the idea of primogeniture as a means of male prejudice against female children, and a refusal to accept that the order has changed. This attitude continues today. In my research on primogeniture, I have come across this idea in other books, and in fact it is one of the threads of the novel I am writing for my degree. I have learnt from the responses I've had, that whilst primogeniture in the aristocracy and upper classes was mainly to protect landed estates (and of course, this meant male dominance), in the lower classes it was used to deny women rights of ownership and control. So, Laurene is spot on!”

“In view of my academic interest, The Heir was my focus, but I liked the way the plot twisted and turned in Walking in the Shadows. I did not have a clue about what the main female character was really intending until later as the story unfolded. Although there was underlying suspense about her motives, the ending caught me by surprise. The final twist was a nice touch.”
