“Hero” based on the life of Ulric Cross
Frances-Anne Solomon's award-winning feature film 'Hero - The Extraordinary Life of Mr. Ulric Cross', is now available to view exclusively on Amazon Prime Video UK
Laurene had the privilege of knowing His Excellency Ulric Cross ORTT DSO DFC when he was the High Commissioner for Trinidad and Tobago in the United Kingdom. As shown in the photographs, she was able to congratulate Frances-Anne Solomon and stars of the film in person at screenings in Oxford and London, and also at a reception in Brixton.
She encourages everyone to view this riveting and worthy tribute to a remarkable and much-loved son of Trinidad and Tobago.
HERO is inspired by the extraordinary life and times of Trinidad and Tobago citizen, diplomat and judge Ulric Cross, the most decorated West Indian of World War II. He was a member of the highly celebrated group of Caribbean airmen who flew combat missions for the Royal Air Force in World War II. After his service, Cross went on to play an active and important role in the Pan African Movement, which led to the creation of the 28 modern Caribbean and 54 modern African nations.
HERO opened to rave reviews when it took to cinemas across the UK on a 40 City tour covering England, Scotland and Wales prior to the pandemic. Following this successful tour, HERO went on to win multiple awards and was the feature film in the Opening Night for the Pan African Film Festival, L.A.
The film stars Trinidad’s Nickolai Salcedo in the title role, Peter Williams (Stargate SG1), British actor, Joseph Marcell (Fresh Prince of Bel Air), Holby City's Jimmy Akingbola and Ghanaian superstars John Dumelo, Adjetey Anang and Prince David Osei.
Film and television industry pioneer, Frances-Anne Solomon, has expertly lifted the lid on one of many untold stories of notable Caribbean professionals who made it their life's mission to foster African independence. She shared “It’s exciting to know that Ulric's remarkable life will be shared on a global scale.”
